Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the incident left him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
